A big part of The Mountain Sole Project is the creation of patterns based on and inspired by the people, places, and music of the Crooked Road. Much like the blog tells the stories of the happenings while travelling, the patterns tell the stories of the place itself and the people who shaped it.
These patterns are, predominantly, socks (thus, Mountain Sole…), but the occasional shawl or stole pattern may end up in this collection, as well, when a larger format is required to properly tell the story. (Those will, largely, come later, as they take a fair bit of knitting and testing to make sure you’re getting an error-free, easy-to-understand pattern. We’re all about protecting your knitterly sanity.)
Patterns may be ordered ala carte, as single downloads, or as part of a kit. Dizzy Blonde Studios is providing an amazing set of semi-solid, kettle-dyed colorways, and four of the most gorgeous hand-paints inspired by the landscape and its musical families along the Road, for your knitting pleasure.
In late August, 2009, there will be a compilation book of the patterns, along with extra storytelling and some extra goodies. More information on that will appear here when we’ve got a firm publication date from our editor. (And when we’ve got the compilation ready to actually GO to our editor. There’s that, too.)
For now, you can see a few of the patterns in progress over there in the sidebar — the “sole patterns” has pictures and some specs on the ones we’ve got completed, so you can get a jump on assembling together your yarns and materials, too.
